Picking Lists

Unsure about which components to choose for your model lighting project? We've added this section to make selecting prewired components easier, based on popular model making themes.

Its also worth checking out the main Components Section overview page HERE, as there may be solutions better suited to the project that you hadn't considered.

Below are shortcuts to categories that may be useful to your specific theme.

Common Components To All Light Kits

When planning out the lighting system, the first thing you'll need to consider is the power source. Aswell as the number of lighting components you intend to include, consider if the power source needs to be hidden inside the model or model base. If the model needs to remain portable eg to be taken to exhibitions, battery options may be needed. If to be displayed in the one place, a USB power option may suit better.

The Battery Box & Clips section can be found HERE

Most of the prewired components we stock operate best between 5v and 12v DC, and so the 9v Battery Box with terminal connector is always a popular choice. These are listed HERE.

If the components you intend to use operate at 5v DC (most do excluding SMD LED light strips) a basic USB connection adaptor is listed HERE.

If you intend to use SMD LED light strips, you'll need a 9v USB Step Up Transformer listed HERE.

Power Leads

You'll now need to run the power from the battery box / USB to a single connection point inside the model from where all of the lighting components can be branched. Consider how the lighting will be installed and opt for a spacious area inside the model shell.

Connection leads in both 0.5mm and 1mm wires with various sized screw terminal connectors are available in the section HERE.

If using the USB Step Up Transormer, you'll need the lead with the jack connector HERE.

If you're considering modifying the model to incorporate a miniature battery box, we also stock strong magnets HERE that can be attached to cutaway panels to make access easier.
